Spiral melongena
Pugilina cochlidium
Family Melogenidae

These large snails are common on the shores. They lay their eggs in a row of capsules on hard surfaces. The shell of a living snail is covered with tiny hairs that trap the sediment.

The large grey tear-drop shaped object is the snail's operculum (a 'door" attached to the snail's foot which is used to block the shell opening when the snail is retracted into the shell).
