This
seaweed is seasonally encountered on the coral rubble area, usually
towards the seaward edge where it is seldom exposed at low tide. It
has little disk-shaped caps on a stalk that look like umbrellas or
parasols. The caps are about 1cm in diameter.
This seaweed grows in sheltered waters where it can form small 'carpets'
on the soft, muddy ground or on coral rubble. It grows in water up
to 6m deep.
Human uses: This seaweed is reported
to be edible, to have antifungal properties, and used to treat high
blood pressure. |
