Buloh Wetland Reserve
Route Three
7 kms, 4-5 hours to walk, level gravel trail but long and thus
not suitable for young children, pack a meal and bring lots of water
At 7kms, Route Three
is the longest and takes you to the major concentration of freshwater
ponds of the Reserve.
To get to Route Three, walk along the
longest boardwalk of the Reserve bringing you through the unpronounceable
Mangrove Arboretum. This 575m boardwalk links Route 1 to Route 3.
Being relative far from the Visitor Centre and a bit of a hike, the
area is more tranquil. All manner of birds and mangrove creatures
are more likely to be seen, confidently going about their daily business.
At the freshwater hides, you may be rewarded with sights of birds
such as the Baya Weaver, bitterns and White Brow crake. Herons and
other waterbirds are also commonly seen. Being
more remote, this is where the serious birdwatchers are usually found.
So be quiet as you walk the route to avoid scaring off wildlife that
other visitors have been patiently waiting for.
