Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve

Visitor Centre

The Visitor Centre has displays explaining features of the mangroves. My favourite is the fish tank which gives you a closer look at the fishes of the Reserve. You can usually see the marvellous Archerfish. Sometimes, there might be the amazing flatfish, waspfish and strange gobies. There is also a display of the amazing nests built by the Baya weaver bird and Tailorbird. I still can't figure out how the birds create these marvellous nests without any hands and fingers.

There is a little rest area in the Visitor Centre with benches facing a freshwater pond filled with lilies and reeds. Bitterns have been spotted here. On the grassy banks of the pond on a hot day, you will usually see basking Water monitor lizards. The Smooth otters were once spotted playing in this pond!

Nearby is the Nature Cove a cosy reading corner where you can look up and learn more about plants and animals you saw on your visit. There are lockers here, using a refundable $1 coin to operate. more

There is also a cafeteria with friendly staff serving beverages, snacks and hot meals. There's also ice-cream! Sit next to the pond filled with koi and other colourful fishes for a relaxing breakfast. The pond is surrounded by vegetation where the White-breasted waterhen sometimes plays hide-and-seek with the Monitor lizards. There is a very large Jambu tree near the kitchen which also attracts pigeons, squirrels and other animals when it is fruiting. The cafeteria also sells souvenirs, insect repellent, film and other things you might have forgotten to pack.

The Theatrette has a 10-minute audio-visual show which introduces you to the flora and fauna of the Reserve. The show screens on Mon-Sat: 9am, 11am, 1pm, 3pm & 5pm Sun & Public Holidays: Hourly from 9am to 5pm.

There are Toilets at the Visitor Centre and a mobile toilet at Route 1.
