Red eye stalked fiddler crab
awaiting identification*
Family Ocypodidae
updated Aug 09
Where seen? This tiny fiddler crab with bright red eye stalks is seen in the back mangroves of Chek Jawa on hard compacted mud near young mangrove trees. The burrow seems to have a raised edge around it so it resembles a chimney.

Features: Body width 1cm or less. Body rather triangular when seen from above, but rounded below. The male fiddler crab's enlarged pincer is not longer than his body width. They come in a wide range of pschedelic flourescent colours. But all of them have red eyes on red eye stalks.
