Where
seen?
This large flat seaweed is commonly seen our Southern shores, attached
to coral rubble. Loose sheets are sometimes seen floating in other
parts of the shore. It is often mistaken for discarded red plastic
bags!
Features: Clumps of several flat
sheets up to 10-20cm across. Sometimes, enormous ones of about 30-40cm
are seen. Each clump can be quite large but the clumps are scattered.
The blade is thin, flat, translucent, smooth and slippery, with ruffled
edges (not feathery). Surface may be plain or have large paler blotches
or mottles. Colours red, maroon, brownish-orange. |
