Giant clam
Tridacna sp.

Giant clams are considered endangered due to habitat degradation and over-collection for food and as ornaments. Large specimens have virtually disappeared. Young specimens are infrequently encountered. These large bivalves have fluted shells, colourful mantles and usually lie on the reef floor, sucking in sea water to filter out food.
