Front
beacon

The
tall, white structure on the coral rubble is called the front beacon
of Chek Jawa. It has a counterpart beacon on top of the hill which
is called the rear beacon of Chek Jawa. These beacons help ships to
navigate safely through the narrow channels around Pulau Ubin.
Like any hard surface in the sea, the legs of the beacon provide a
place for plants and animals to grow on and cling to! |
