The beautiful Fern seagrass has compound leaves about 4cm long, each with 10-20 pairs of opposite leaflets. Its rhizomes (underground stems) are thin, sometimes woody.

Patches of this seagrass grows near the south sand bar, as well as some other parts of the lagoon. On Chek Jawa, preliminary results of a transact survey suggest it is quite widely distributed in the seagrass lagoon.
