Nature activities and events happening this week

1-7 Dec 2003

3 Dec (Wed): Free slidetalk on Plants and Holiday
Traditions in Singapore

Time: 7pm
Place: NSS Office, The Sunflower, 510 Geylang Road #02-05,

The Plant Group of Nature Society (Singapore) is giving this talk. Holidays are a time for reflection, spiritual growth, of kinship and camaraderie, of community spirit, and of renewing old ties and making new ones. It is also a time when plants of all sorts are used as part of holiday festivities. Come for this informal sharing session, and see what kinds of plants are used by various cultures in the celebration of their respective holidays. What is the significance or symbolism surrounding them? This is a great time of year, as we have many major festivities that have either just ended (Deepavali), are on-going (Hari Raya Aidilfitri), or are about to come (Christmas, New Year).

Come visit Khatib Bongsu with Cheong Loong Fah and see for yourself why it is important to conserve this nature area. The remaining mangroves, the truly rustic and rural feel of this place – all these just beside a HDB township. The biodiversity of this place is amazing, not to mention that it is also a wintering ground for many migrating shorebirds. Should we not conserve it?
