16 Apr (Sat): Butterflies and “butterfly plants”
at the Alexandra Hospital

open only to NSS members

Join the Nature Society (Singapore)'s Butterfly Interest Group and the Plant Group. Nature is beautiful in its complexity – consider for example, butterflies and their interaction with plants. Some plants serve as nectar sources for adult butterflies, others serve as food plants for butterfly larvae. Others don’t serve as food at all, but provide chemicals that butterflies may use for amorous purposes.

This joint Butterfly Interest Group/Plant Group trip will begin with a short introductory talk and conclude with a walk around the wonderful butterfly garden of the Alexandra Hospital. Come and learn about some of our most beloved garden butterflies and the plants they rely upon, and we can almost guarantee that you’ll be hooked on learning more about these wonderful insects and plants.

The Plant Group and the Butterfly Interest Group will appreciate any contributions made at the walk in support of Nature Society’s General Fund.

Time: 10am. Meet at at the car park in front of the Alexandra Hospital cafeteria.

17 Apr (Sun): Kids’ Earth Day Fun at Marina City Park

Come explore the park with us this afternoon and have fun with nature! If we’re lucky, we’ll spot treeducks, waterhens, herons, egrets, orioles, kites and koels. If we look carefully, we’d probably also see dragon and damselflies, beetles, and other insects. And, we’re sure to see lots of lovely trees. Bring a snack and a drink, and we can have a picnic by the pond after our nature walk. Kids, wear lightweight cotton clothing, a good pair of walking shoes, bring a bottle of water, magnifying glass (if you have), nature journal/notebook and a pencil. Herbal insect repellent will keep the mozzies away.

The Education Group will be selling nature nic-nacs to raise funds for our Society, so bring along an extra $2 or more to spend!

Time: 3.45 pm. Meet at the entrance to Marina City Park near carpark A. If you’re coming by public transportation, please let us know, and we shall make arrangements to pick you up from the junction of Marina Park Road and Marina Boulevard (just after Marina MRT Station) at 3.30 pm.
