31 Jan (Tue): Istana open house

Visit the Istana to view some of the wild and other treasures there. The Istana also boasts several different fruits, including star apples, ornamental bananas, belinjau seeds, and ginger. There are also some 10,000 trees, including durian trees, special pandan coconut trees and the tall 150-year old Tembusu tree. More about the Istana's treasures.

Admission to the Istana grounds is free for Singaporeans and Singapore Permanent Residents. Others, including foreign visitors, are required to pay an entrance fee of $1 per person. Entrance to the grounds is via the main gate at Orchard Road. Opening hours are usually from 8.30 am to 6.00 pm. More on the Istana website.

31 Jan (Tue): Reefwalk at Kusu Island by the Blue Water Volunteers fully booked, registration closed

You don't need to dive, you don't need to swim. On this third day of the Lunar New Year, let the Blue Water Volunteers bring you on a guided walk on our very own reefs.

Pre-registration required. More on the Blue Water Volunteer website


Time: 5-9pm. Meeting place to be confirmed
Cost: $15/person regardless of age

1-3 Feb (Wed-Fri): NUS Dive Club Roadshow @ Arts Forum National University of Singapore

Come visit us at the Blue Water Volunteers booth and find out more about Singapore's marine life. Also, find out more about how you can do your part for marine conservation.

along the reservoir4 Feb (Sat): Lower Peirce Boardwalk
free Nature Appreciation Walk

The 900m boardwalks take you through the forest then along the edge of the Reservoir. So you will encounter a wide range of wildlife from forest to aquatic creatures. And enjoy wonderful panaromas of waters surrounding by luxuriant forest. Shaded by the forest, the walk is pleasantly cool. more

Time: 9.30am and 10.30am. Meet at Casuarina Entrance of the trail along Old Upper Thomson Road.
Tour duration:
about one and a half hours. Suitable for young children

Main Bridge4 Feb (Sat): Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve celebrates World Wetland Day

To celebrate World Wetland Day, there will be a special "Freshwater Pond Life" activity at 9am - 12pm. For kids 9-12years old Max number of children: 15. Pre-register by 20 Jan 05.

Hillgrove Secondary School will also be there to conduct fund-raising activities at the Visitor Centre, 9am-noon.

The usual free guided walk will also be on (more) as well as the Marine Fish Tour at 9am, a 30-minute tour introducing the fascinating fishes of Buloh.

Time: 9am, 10am, 3pm, 4pm, for walk in guests, register at the Visitor Centre. Those coming with large groups are advised to pre-register.
Tour duration: one to one and a half hours. Easy trails, some suitable for young children.
Entry charges: $1 per adult, 50cents per child/student/senior citizen.

4 Feb (Sat): Free Evolution Garden Tour, Singapore Botanic Gardens

Journey through time with our volunteer guides in this one-hour tour. Bizarre plants, bubbling pools of hot lava and lots of other things you wouldn't expect to see in a botanic garden!

Time: 9am, register at Visitor Centre Time. Register 15 minutes before the tour. Registration is on a first-come-first-served basis.

Photo Number 25 Feb (Sun): Bukit Timah Nature Reserve
free Nature Appreciation Walk

The walk takes you along the short South View trail for a quick introduction to the rainforest. You will learn more about the amazing plant life in a rainforest and how everything fits remarkably together. more

Time: Walk starts at 4pm. Meet 5 minutes before the walk starts at the Visitor Centre.
Tour duration: about one hour. Not accessible to prams and wheelchairs.
To join the guided tour, you will need to pre-book with NParks.

tumu blossom5 Feb (Sun): Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve free guided walk

You'll see the fabulous plants and animals of the mangroves and freshwater wetlands. Besides the abundant bird life, there is also other fascinating wildlife in the Reserve. more

5 Feb (Sun): Birdwatching at Tuas Grassland
Open only to NSS members

With Alan Owyong. We will be checking the grassland here for species like Snipes, Munias, Pipits, Shrikes and Red-wattled Lapwing.

Time: Meet at 7.30am along the road opposite Tiger Brewery (near junction of Jln Ahmad Ibrahim & Tuas West Road).
