Make
a differencefor Chek Jawa! We need more volunteer guides so that more people can get to know Chek Jawa's marvelous mysteries and wondrous beauty. What do I get out of it? As a volunteer, you get to put your passion for Chek Jawa into practice. As a guide, you make a great personal difference to the kind of visit that people have on Chek Jawa. You will learn more about Chek Jawa through interactions with experts and experienced naturalists. Training also involves special field trips for guides only. You also get to hang out with others who share your passion. It's fun and meaningful. What does it take to be a volunteer guide on Chek Jawa? All you need are a passion for nature and the outdoors, and a commitment to share Chek Jawa with others. I don't know anything about Chek Jawa. So how? It doesn't matter if you never took science or know nothing about the intertidal zone. Visitors come to see Chek Jawa and appreciate nature and not to hear a science lecture. For visitors, the most enjoyable and meaningful walk is one conducted by a passionate guide. Experienced guides will help you develop your own guiding style and content. The only requirement is the desire to learn and commitment to pass on what you learnt. What
does the training involve? You will join 6 on-the-job sessions
accompanying experienced guides on actual walks. There will also be guides-only
walks where experienced guides introduce Chek Jawa in greater detail. These
guides will share with you tips and explain processes and procedures. You will be expected to develop the content of your guided walk on your own, based on the these tips and using the Chek Jawa Guidebook and on-line information on this website. The experienced guides will always be at hand to help out new guides. After the 6 sessions, you should be ready to guide on your own! Formal classroom sessions will be held once a year for all guides. When are the guiding dates? Public walks on Chek Jawa are held during suitable low spring tides during daylight hours. These do not necessarily fall on a weekend. Here are the current duty dates. When can I sign up to be a guide? Now! As training is done on-the-job, you don't have to wait for a training cycle or have to stick to a formal training schedule. Simply sign up and turn up for the dates that best suit your schedule. How do I sign up? Simple! Just fill up the volunteer form on the NParks website. Or email Ria (hello@wildsingapore.com) for more details. Hope to hear from you soon!
