Mangrove shield bugs
Calliphara nobilis
Family Pentatomidae
updated Oct 2016
Where seen? This colourful insect is sometimes seen in numbers in our mangroves.

Features: Adults about 1-1.5cm long. The larvae are only found on Buta buta trees (Excoecaria algallocha), where they feed on the developing seeds. But the adults may be found in groups under large leaves of any mangrove plant.
