Saddled shrimp-goby
Cryptocentrus maudae
Family Gobiidae
updated Aug 10

Where seen? This goby lives with a shrimp and is sometimes seen on our Southern shores. More about the goby and shrimp partnership.

Features: To about 7cm, tiny ones about 1.5cm also seen. It shares a burrow with a snapping shrimp. The burrow is near the mid-water mark. The goby has a bright white snout and at least five white or pale 'saddles' across its back. Small ones are strikingly black-and-white, while larger ones have regular spots all over their bodies.
