What’s your marine ecosystem worth?

Today the IUCN Global Marine Programme started its first online lecture of the recently launched Large Marine Ecosystem (LME) learning project, sponsored by the Global Environment Facility – International Waters: Learn.

The first lecture elaborates on economic valuation of transboundary marine and coastal resources. For the next three months, discussions between LME managers will follow up on the lecture.

Economic values of protected areas - the IUCN WCPA guide including short case studies
The biodiversity benefits of coral reef ecosystems - includes three case studies

How much is an ecosystem worth? - a recent paper from the World Bank and IUCN

Addresses these basic questions
What benefits do large marine ecosystems generate and to whom?
What costs do large marine ecosystems generate and to whom?
Who is interested in the benefits and costs of large marine ecosystems and why?
