Region's first Wildlife Film Festival premieres in Singapore

 SINGAPORE: The region's first ever film festival dedicated to the wildlife industry, will make its debut in Singapore on 13 March.

The four-day event may be a new festival but it is already attracting big names in the industry.

"The fact is the industry here is a great region for growth, so it's on the up and up. But what we want to see, what we expect to see, is growth in the talent pool. More new talented wildlife filmmakers coming up from the region, making even better wildlife films for the international market. So that's what we see, that's what we expect - the growth in wildlife filmmaking within the region," said Chris Dickinson, Executive Director, Wildlife Asia.

Wildlife Asia hopes the film festival will encourage filmmakers and conservationists to network.

But the event, which will be held in Singapore's Suntec Convention Centre, is not just for professionals. There will also be free public screenings as well as seminars and workshops for budding filmmakers and students.

Organisers say the festival will also attract major broadcasters like Animal Planet and National Geographic who are reportedly on the lookout for talented filmmakers.

Part of the festival line-up includes a seminar called 'Green is the Colour of Money', which discusses the implications of economic activities on the environment. -CNA/yy
