Where
seen? Looking like a sprinkle of orange coins, this sponge is sometimes seen on reefy shores of Pulau Semakau..
Features: Most of this burrowing sponge is hidden. The sponge can bore holes in calcium carbonate skeletons, snail shells to make a home where they live. What is seen on the outside are small sucker-like disks (0.2-1cm).
Cliona utricularis are bright reddish orange. Other Cliona species may be yellow. |
