25-26 Sep (Tue-Wed): International Workshop on Tropical Island Biodiversity: "Across Land And Sea"

The workshop will focus on the biodiversity of tropical islands and includes both terrestrial and marine environments. There will be two days of talks with four keynote speakers, 24 oral presentations, 14 poster presentations, and two roundtable discussions. The oral presentations are divided into three themes: Diversity of Marine Organisms, Diversification and Extinction of Island Animals, and Diversity and Biogeography of Island Plants.

26 Sep (Wed): Interdisciplinary Forum on Global Warming and Climate Change at the National University of Singapore

Ria Tan shares amazing encounters on the little-known shores of Singapore. From Changi to Cyrene Reef, encounters include 'Nemos' and other surprises. While some shores are remote and inaccessible, many are simply ignored. Find out more about our fragile wild shores and what you can do for them. All are welcome.

Have you faced frustrations in sharing your excitement about our wild places? How can you better infect ordinary people with a love for nature? Join the volunteer guides of Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve and Naked Hermit Crabs in this workshop as we explore common situations faced by nature guides. It will be based on real problems and explore real solutions. And provide a great opportunity for nature guides to learn from one another.

All guides from all groups are welcomed.

You'll see the fabulous plants and animals of the mangroves and freshwater wetlands. Besides the abundant bird life, there is also other fascinating wildlife in the Reserve. more

9.30am: Marine Fish Tour, a 30-minute tour introducing the fascinating fishes of Buloh.

Time: 9.30 am and 3.30pm for walk in guests, register at the Visitor Centre. Those coming with large groups are advised to pre-register.
Tour duration: one to one and a half hours. Easy trails, some suitable for young children.
Entry charges: $1 per adult, 50cents per child/student/senior citizen.

30 Sep (Sun): Free Guided Nature Walk at Pulau Ubin

Come and rediscover the wonders of nature at Singapore's last unspoilt island - Pulau Ubin with the Green Volunteers Network. You'll walk along the sensory trail (about one and half hours) and cover different habitats that include medicinal and vegetable gardens, fruit orchards, coconut groves and mangrove habitats. If you're lucky, you'll see Oriental Pied hornbills and hear the highly endangered Straw headed bulbul.

Registration is needed as walk is expected to be fully booked.

Pui San welcomes artists of all ages or anyone who wants to learn. His objective is to encourage creativity while enjoying nature at the same time. Bring along your favourite drawing or painting supplies. More in the Art in the Wetlands blog.

Time: Meet 8.30am at the Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve ticketing counter (Visitor Centre). Session usually lasts until about 11am.
