Siderastreid corals
Family Siderastreidae
updated Oct 11

Where seen? These hard corals with tiny to small corallites are often seen on many of our shores.

Status and threats: Pseudosiderastrea tayami is listed as globally Near Threatened by the IUCN. Like other creatures of the intertidal zone, they are affected by human activities such as reclamation and pollution. Trampling by careless visitors, and over-collection also have an impact on local populations.

A closer look at the tiny corallites that
form petal-like shapes like a flower.
