  wild people: Yang Kuang

I first met Yang Kuang as a volunteer guide at Sungei Buloh. We worked more closely when Yang Kuang started the Mandarin-speaking elements for the Chek Jawa volunteer guides. His contribution was invaluable as it helped us reach out to more people on Chek Jawa.

It was only later on that I found out Yang Kuang is also the Poster Boy of Small Enterprise; overcoming obstacles to become the first person to set up a HDB hostel for backpackers! Through his hostel, Yang Kuang hopes to share Singapore's natural splendours with visitors and give them a taste of Real Singapore.

ChannelNews Asia has more about Yang Kuang's feat.

Here is more about Yang Kuang in his own words ...

How did you first get involved in working for nature in Singapore?
I was backpacking in New Zealand for six months. Did some soul searching there and realised that Singapore does have a couple of nature spots that are seldom visited by tourists/Singaporeans. So when I came back to Singapore I signed up as a volunteer guide at Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve
What is your personal motto in your work?
Life is short! Don't worry, be happy.
What are some of your current projects?
Just set up a backpackers Hostel in Woodlands HDB estate. Hopefully, I can introduce the Real Singapore and our Nature Reserves (Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve, Bukit Timah Nature Reserve etc) to tourists.

Yang Kuang is 35, his day job is as a Research Officer and he currently volunteers as a guide at Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve and Chek Jawa.

More on how YOU can make a difference too...
